Caring for Gold-Plated Jewellery in Lagos Humidity

Last on, first off

Perfume, sunscreen and sweat are what wear plating down — not time. Put your jewellery on after everything else and take it off before you wash your face.

Wipe, don't soak

A soft cloth after wearing is all a plated piece needs. Never leave it in water or in a bathroom overnight; the humidity does the same work as a bath.

Store it dry

The box it came in is not decoration — the lined interior keeps pieces from rubbing each other. Add a silica sachet if your room is damp.

When it fades

Bring it in. Replating is a week and a small fee, and it comes back looking new.
