Leather, silk and gold, made slowly

Stitched at the bench

Journal

Why a saddle stitch costs more than a machine stitch, and why it lasts longer.

Two needles, one thread

A saddle stitch passes a needle through each end of a single waxed thread. If one stitch breaks, its neighbours hold. A machine lock stitch can unravel along the whole seam.

It takes about ten times as long, which is exactly the point.
