Built on the bench

Shoes cut, lasted and finished by hand, then made to be mended.

Fewer pairs, made properly

Fewer pairs, made properly

We make a small range of shoes and make each one the long way: leather cut by hand, uppers pulled over wooden lasts and left to set, soles stitched rather than glued.

It takes longer, and it means a pair can be resoled and re-heeled for years instead of thrown away when the sole wears through.

Mended, not replaced

A well-made shoe outlives its sole. Ours are stitched so the sole and heel can be taken off and renewed, and the leather is chosen to take polish for years. Bring a worn pair back and ask about a resole before you think about a new one.

From hide to heel

Every pair passes the same bench before it reaches you.

  1. 01

    Cutting

Each piece is cut from the best part of the hide, matched left to right.

  2. 02

    Lasting

The upper is pulled over a wooden last and left to take its shape.

  3. 03

    Welting

A leather welt is stitched in, and the sole is stitched to it.

  4. 04

    Finishing

Edges inked and burnished, the leather polished, the pair checked side by side.
