Caring for fine jewellery

A soft cloth, warm water and a pouch each: how to keep gold, silver and stones looking new.

Every day

Solid gold does not tarnish, but it does collect the film of daily life: lotion, soap, the oils of your skin. A soft, dry cloth after wearing keeps the shine.

Now and then

Once a month, soak your pieces for a few minutes in warm water with a drop of mild washing-up liquid. Brush gently behind the stones with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and pat dry.

Sterling silver

Silver darkens in air. Wear it often — wearing is the best polish — and store it in its pouch. A silver cloth lifts any tarnish in seconds.

What to avoid

Take rings off for the gym, the garden, the pool and cleaning products. Chlorine is hard on gold alloys, and knocks are what loosen stones.

Storage

One pouch per piece. Chains tangle and diamonds scratch everything, including other diamonds.
